I love this quote from Lydia Brownback in her book, “Sing a New Song, a Woman’s Guide to the Psalms.” I’ve been thinking a lot about prayer lately … how to pray … what to pray … even at times WHY do we pray.
Have you ever been in such a dark place that you didn’t know how or what to pray? Have you ever felt alone, like no one could possible begin to understand what you are going through or feeling; not knowing what to do to find resolution to your situation?
Do you come to God with expectations and your own solutions, only to become disheartened because he didn’t answer the way you thought he should have?
Jesus is our closest friend. He sees. He hears. He DOES truly understand. He KNOWS what we need to hear. He meets us where we are with compassion and honesty.
His ways are not our ways; his ways are better. Though we may not understand in the moment, we can trust in his goodness.
Sometimes we are saved FROM our trial, sometimes THROUGH it, and sometimes IN it. Regardless of how he chooses to work, we can trust that God is faithful to stay WITH us to the end.
Prayer should not be our last resort but our first response. When the winds of trials blow, we need to lean it to the One who calms the storms.
